Dr. Michelle E. Mamos, PT, DPT, CSCS

Doctor of Physical Therapy
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist

After suffering a spinal fracture at age 15 while playing basketball, Dr. Michelle Mamos knew at an early age what she wanted to do. Her own journey to recovery showed her that physical therapy, combined with proper strength and conditioning, could repair the body, change movement patterns, improve function and prevent future injury. With this mindset, Michelle now strives to provide patient-centered care by developing individualized physical therapy plans using a combination of manual techniques and therapeutic exercise. She believes nonsurgical management of musculoskeletal pathologies is key, and enjoys the challenge of a complex case and learning new ways to effectively help people. Dr. Mamos is focused, passionate and highly skilled; her patients know right away that she will do whatever it takes to help them improve their function and health.

Michelle graduated from Marblehead High School in Marblehead, MA. There she was captain of the varsity field hockey team and the girl’s varsity basketball team. She was a Northeastern Conference All-Star and a Salem News All-Star. She was also a volunteer basketball coach with the Swampscott Youth Basketball program.

Michelle then attended UMASS Lowell. She majored in Exercise Physiology, minored in Nutrition and graduated magna cum laude. During her time in Lowell, Michelle played intermural basketball and soccer. She was also the intramural broomball (similar to hockey) champion. For work, Michelle ran small group personal training sessions on and off campus. She also completed an internship at the Institute for Performance & Fitness with Walter Norton Jr., in North Reading, MA, working with adults, high school and college students and top-level professional athletes.

Dr. Mamos also became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. CSCS’s are certified professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention.

Michelle continued studying at UMASS Lowell and earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She completed three clinical rotations at Spaulding Rehab outpatient clinic in Middleton, MA, at New England Rehab Hospital’s sub acute neurology clinic in Woburn, MA and at Tufts Medical Center’s outpatient rehabilitation clinic in Boston, MA. She also continued to work in personal training, using all of her medical, clinical and coaching experience to help numerous clients.

After graduation, Dr. Mamos worked at an area outpatient PT facility for over three years. She became a clinic manager at one location, and was responsible for treating a full patient caseload, as well as patient scheduling, payroll, health insurance and administrative tasks. Michelle then joined the HDPT Wakefield team in September of 2018 as a full time physical therapist.

In her spare time, Michelle enjoys weight lifting, running, hiking and the beach! She is also a New England Patriots and Boston Bruins super fan! Michelle currently resides on the Northshore with her husband James and their son Mason.
