Joshua Hunter, BS, PTA

Josh is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with a strong background in athletics, exercise science and patient-centered rehabilitation. He is passionate about helping patients improve movement, restore function and return to the activities they enjoy most. He values building strong patient relationships and creating individualized treatment experiences rooted in encouragement, education and evidence-based care.
Raised in Lawrence, MA, Josh developed an early passion for health and performance through competitive sports, participating in basketball, soccer and track. As a sprinter specializing in the 100m and 200m dash, he gained firsthand experience in injury prevention and recovery, experiences that ultimately inspired his career in physical therapy.
Josh graduated from Presentation of Mary Academy high school in Methuen in 2015 before attending Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in Standish, where he initially entered the nursing program before transitioning into Exercise Science with a minor in Biology. During his college years, he was a member of their exercise science club, and remained highly active in athletics and recreation, competing in track and field and intramural basketball. His senior seminar experiences included clinical observation in an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Grey, ME, and an equestrian therapy program, before graduating in 2019.
Also in 2019, Josh experienced a significant personal setback after sustaining a torn PCL and femur fracture in a car accident. His own rehabilitation journey provided valuable perspective on the physical and emotional aspects of recovery, reinforcing his commitment to helping patients regain strength, mobility and confidence.
During COVID, Josh began gaining hands-on clinical experience as a physical therapy aide at Optima Sports Therapy in Salem, NH, working in an outpatient orthopedic environment. He later served as a movement specialist and manager at StretchMed in Winchester, where he further developed his skills in mobility, recovery and patient care.
In September 2021, Josh enrolled in the Physical Therapist Assistant program at North Shore Community College, completing the part-time program in May 2024, and becoming a licensed PTA in the fall 2024. During his clinical rotations, he gained experience across a variety of healthcare settings, including outpatient orthopedics at OFF-SEASON Sports & Physical Therapy in North Andover, inpatient skilled nursing and adult day health services through the PACE Program in Methuen and home health care.
Outside of the clinic, Josh enjoys hiking throughout New Hampshire, exploring local restaurants, butcher shops and breweries across Massachusetts and Maine, and spending time with his cat, Mackerel. He currently resides in Burlington, MA.
